The Special Remedial Class (SpR) - The Special Remedial programme at the Queen’s Preparatory School is able to facilitate students who are assessed as performing more than one grade level below expectations and are therefore unable to meet the academic requirements in the regular classroom setting. These students may or may not present with Attention Deficit Disorders, Learning Disabilities, be Intellectually Deficient or present with other conditions such as Autism and Down’s Syndrome. The programme is largely academic in nature where a child’s special needs are addressed through an Individual Education Plan. In addition to academics the students receive instruction in Physical Education, Music and Movement and are able to access the full range of extra- curricular activities offered at the school. Before a child can be included in the Programme in the Special Remedial Class, the school has to be provided with a recent (not older than 2 years) assessment report to verify the child’s eligibility for the special services provided.

The Resource Room Services are offered by two teachers in the Kindergarten Department (Kindergarten – Grade 3). These teachers assist the classroom teachers by providing remedial help to children identified by both the classroom teacher and the Resource Room teachers. Formal/informal assessment measures are used to diagnose the areas of difficulty being experienced by children who have been identified by the classroom teacher, as well as independent observation of the children in the classes. Sessions are timetabled in the areas of Reading, Mathematics and Phonics and this is done within the classroom and/or outside the classroom as the circ*mstances permit. There is also the opportunity to work individually with students as the need arises. This service provides support to the academic programme offered at the school.
